How to fix “We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12” error?

Yesterday Google has closed it’s maintenance process for Custom domain redirection and it came with some new features that is it closed the Google App domain registration with Blogger.  Now when we add our new custom domain you may get this error “We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12. Please follow the settings instructions”. You get this problem because it requires your ownership and to reduce domain name fraud. Follow this tutorial.

  • Do the steps given in this link
  • Wait for 4-5 hours.
  • Now when you switching your old blogger address to your new domain name it may show this error.
  • You can fix this
It wants you to follow the settings instruction .
  • Click on Setting instructions.
  • It shows you to add Two CNAME records like one is “ and other is like ”” Follow the instructions.
  • Add it as new CNAME record to your Domain DNS settings.
  • After 5-10 minutes you can add your new domain on Blogger.
  • After added your domain you have to tick “Redirect to”
Now your Domain problem will be fixed.

  1. Hello!

It does not work. I have done everything exactly like in bed and … nothing.
    Error 12
I do not know if it matters, but in line with the code token ends with a dot (the CNAME record at my domain provider does not want to take the value with a dot at the end. So I enter without her …
Perhaps this is the reason for the lack of verification by the blogger?

  2. @ Maciej Chrapkiewicz. In Blogger go to settings > Add custom Domain> Click on setting instructions> Then copy the second CNAME code that the Blogger provided > Go to your Domain manager > Click on Add a CNAME record> Add the create and click on save. Wait for 5-10 mins. Now it will works.

    Thank you..

  3. 2 problems: 1 google; 1 netfirms domain host

    1. “settings instructions” (after entering domain name and getting Error 12) sends me to a white page with Error 400.

    2. I almost had it yesterday, but found Netfirms CNAME (alias) entry form is too short to contain the final part of the verify code. Example “gv-DCZJIVLYB6X7**************” with the last bit of code “” cut off

Hopefully Google gets the instructions page back up soon.
I plan to contact Netfirms support on the other issue.

Hope to have this all figured out soon

Last night I found I able to get past “Bad Request Error 400” by adding “www” to my domain (in Advanced setting http:// form)> Error 32 > “setting instructions” yielded results as far as yielding an address… but this morning I’m getting Error 404 either way.

as stated previously the second part of the address doesn’t fit in NetFirms CNAME alias form.

Still haven’t heard back from NetFirms, but it’s still early here in the states.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

I have an issue with network solutions, the problem is they wont allow me to add all the chracters, they have a chracter limit on the cname field. the first cname was added perfectly… i thought i could call support and get someone to go in and manully input the second cname but those idiots shortened the code ”” I dont know what to do now, im pulling my hair out and all i want to do is get my darn site up! 1. This is also true of They don’t support the long code on the second CNAME record.

After days of frustration trying the other methods of verification I’ve given up and will transfer my doman to another registrar. This will entail a lot of additional time, disruption of service, and extra expense.

  7. I Purchased a domain with Hostgator ( and I dont have control to CPANEL. This became a hell lot trying to contact the support three times. They assured me that the changes will take place but this never worked. Am stranded because my hands are tied. I may resolve to buy a domain with another registrar if this fails to work.
